September 2003 New season’s Australian Asparagus a huge attraction! Attracting unusually high traffic flows, Australian Asparagus Council’s new website www.asparagus.com.au has proven to be a huge attraction and is bound to attract even more interest now that the Australian Asparagus Council’s Recipe Club is in full swing! Consumers now have the chance to win great prizes for sending their favourite asparagus recipes to the Australian Asparagus Council. The Australian Asparagus Council’s Recipe Club winner for September, 2003 is Juliana Burgess of Croydon for her recipe Asparagus Salad with Orange & Balsamic Dressing. Guest Judge Ann Creber - food editor, author and ABC food commentator - said, “Juliana’s recipe makes use of a generous amount of asparagus. It also includes the correct cooking time, method, simplicity of preparation and an interesting dressing with currently popular ingredients. With summer approaching, salads are appropriate, and with Christmas not too far away, this would be a lovely visually attractive salad to serve to guests - it’s easy to prepare in advance and good with most kinds of meats.” Australian Asparagus Council President, Kevin Hope, urges home cooks to enter the Recipe Club Competition, saying, “Contributions from home cooks will be a key element in the ongoing development of our website. “We are very pleased that consumers seem to be more confident in selecting, preparing and cooking fresh asparagus. People used to think it was a ‘gourmet’ vegetable, but now they seem to be including it more often in everyday meals. And we have our top food writers to thank for helping improve consumer confidence. Over the past two seasons there have been many excellent articles written about how easy it is to cook asparagus as well as great recipes. Chefs also have a key role in demystifying how to cook fresh asparagus. When consumers dine out and enjoy a dish of char-grilled or poached asparagus, they are more likely to purchase it for home use.” Check out the new website www.asparagus.com.au. It has something for everyone including recipes and tips from passionate growers, chefs and food writers about how to grow, select, prepare, cook and enjoy fresh asparagus! The Australian Asparagus Council hopes their new website helps consumers to join in with the ‘Whole Bunch of Support Campaign’ as launched by Beyond the Square Communication earlier this season - consumers are urged to buy a bunch of asparagus to support asparagus growers around Australia and thereby strengthen the domestic market. Once they have purchased their fresh asparagus, all they have to do is visit www.asparagus.com.au to discover a host of delicious ways to cook it! For more information | ||||||||||||||||||||
