Sam and Nella Bertuna

After cutting asparagus in the area for 17 years, Sam got the bug and started growing asparagus himself and in 1998 he and Nella started packing it themselves. 24 years later Sam and Nella are still passionate about growing asparagus on their own farm in Island Road, Koo Wee Rup.

Sam and Nella love living and bringing their kids up in the area. Nella knows the area like the back of her hand and having worked in Real Estate in Koo Wee Rup for 30 years.

“We specialise in asparagus. It’s the only thing we grow commercially but we do grow our other veggies for ourselves. Asparagus is such a delicious vegetable. We like to fry it in a little olive oil with salt and pepper, bake it in the oven, add it to spaghetti sauce and cook it on the barbie,” says Nella
