ABC Gardening Australia Expo
Asparagus was the flavour of the month at the Melbourne ABC Gardening Expo held at Caulfield Racecourse from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th October. Visitors loved seeing the many quick and tasty ways asparagus can be cooked including BBQ’d Asparagus, Skinny Minny Rolls (whole spears wrapped in filo pastry with Parmesan cheese and baked until golden), Stir-fried Asparagus with Capsicums and Cashews, Asparagus Pesto, Asparagus Pesto Roll Ups - and simply served raw. Visitors took advantage of the high quality farm fresh asparagus that was on offer and the asparagus recipe leaflets so they could whip up the same yummy recipes at home. Many people had grown up on canned asparagus and had not tried cooked fresh asparagus before. It was not long before they said they were now hooked on fresh.
