Meet My Friends The Growers
The Australian Asparagus Council is a group of 46 asparagus growers in the Koo Wee Rup and Dalmore area of Victoria (65km south-east of Melbourne). They grow over 93% of Australia’s fresh asparagus so this is real Asparagus Country!

Asparagus is a ‘fast food’?
Asparagus is not only quick and easy to cook, it is FAST in the way it grows. With the right temperature and humidity, it can grow up to 2cm every hour! To find out more about how asparagus grows, click here.
Asparagus comes in three colours!
Most of the asparagus grown in Australia is green asparagus. White asparagus is next, then purple asparagus. To find out more about the different types of asparagus, click here. But best of all, Asparagus is YUMMY!

Asparagus is bursting with goodness to make you strong and healthy!
Fresh!
When asparagus is first picked it snaps easily and is juicy. To make fresh asparagus more crispy and juicy, stand it upright in a container with the cut ends in 1 cm of water and put it in the refrigerator for 1 hour (it will keep fresh for a few days).
As a Dipper!
Asparagus has the perfect shape to dip into your favourite dip. Try dipping it into mashed avocado (use a fork) mixed with a sprinkling of lemon pepper. Mmmmmmmmmm.
In Soup!
Asparagus Soup is really yummy with toasty fingers dipped in. It is great with cheese sprinkled on top too.
On the BBQ!
Asparagus only takes a few minutes to cook on a BBQ. Make sure you have an adult cook it because BBQs get very hot!

It’s easy to cook asparagus on the George and it only takes minutes.
- Simply wash the asparagus spears and snap off the woody ends.
- Brush each spear with a little olive oil and cook until bright green and just tender. To make it really yummy do not overcook.
- Try making Asparagus Toasties on the George. Cook your asparagus as above, then make a sandwich with cheese and asparagus. Toast the sandwich in the grill until golden brown. You may want to experiment with extra flavourings such as spreading a little pesto, relish or chutney on the bread before you add the cheese and asparagus.
